WATERFORD – Justin Gaydosh held off a charging Kyle James over  the closing laps to win the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified

It was the fourth career victory for Gaydosh, of Newtown.

“I was trying to give him the outside, I didn’t have nothing on the outside,” Gaydosh said. “I was just picking up bite and I was just trying to stay on the apron to give him the open way around on the outside.”

James, of Ashaway, R.I., was second. Jeff Rocco of Wallingford was third.

Keith Rocco was looking to make it four consecutive years of winning the first two SK Modified events of the season at Waterford, but contact between himself and Gaydosh following a restart with 16 laps remaining left Rocco with a flat left front tire.

“We both went into [turn] one hard and we just slid up a little bit and we bumped a little,” Gaydosh said. “I don’t know what happened.”
