Report: Bobby Santos III Back In NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Car For Season Opener
According to a message posted on the Thompson International Speedway, 2010 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour series champion Bobby Santos III will compete in the division’s season opening event at Thompson on April 15.
The Facebook posting said Santos will drive the Tinio Motorsports #44 car for Icebreaker weekend at Thompson. It is unclear if Santos will compete in any other events with the team.
Attempts to reach Santos Monday were unsuccessful.
In his first full season on the Whelen Modified Tour, Santos, driving for Mystic team owner Bob Garbarino, won the series championship in 2010.
Last year Santos had one win, five top-five’s and seven top-10’s for the Garbarino owned team on the way to an eighth place finish in the season standings. Garbarino replaced Santos in his ride over the offseason with two-time series champion Donny Lia.
