The 30-year fixed mortgage edged higher in the past week after surprisingly strong employment reports, according to data released Thursday by Freddie Mac.
The 30-year rate averaged 3.59 percent nationally, up from 3.55 percent the previous week. The 15-year rate also increased slightly to 2.84 percent, up from 2.83 percent. In New England, the 30-year rate was 3.59 percent, up from 3.57 percent, and the 15-year rate remained at 2.84 percent.
