Although she didn’t realize it, a surprise package awaited Joriss MacKnight of Cheshire after she was notified last month by FedEx.

Or at least she thought it was an email from FedEx instructing her to pick up a parcel its courier was unable to deliver. To get the package, MacKnight would have to click on “Get & Print Receipt” and bring the printout to the nearest FedEx office.

MacKnight clicked, then paused when a prompt to download a program, not a pick-up order, appeared on her computer screen.
