Anyone else miss the New York-Boston rivalry this fall? Here are some numbers, New York vs. Boson, from a new survey by Rent.com and Delivery.com on renters who order food, and what, for delivery. So it’s not quite baseball, but let’s look at the results. (The survey of 1,000 renters included Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, LA, NY, Philly, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. More on the over results below.)
>> New York ranks #1 for volume of deliveries across the nation
>> New York residents are responsible for the most number of deliveries ordered during lunch/midday
>> New York residents are responsible for the most number of deliveries ordered after 7 PM
>> New York residents are responsible for the most number of breakfast deliveries
>> The most popular cuisines ordered by New York residents are Deli/Diner, Chinese, Italian, Japanese and Burgers, respectively.
>> New York residents order an eclectic mix of dishes the most: Pizza, Pad Thai and Chicken Tikka Masala, respectively.
>> New York has the highest number of repeat orders
>> The most popular cuisines ordered by Boston residents are Italian, Deli/Diner, Thai, Chinese and Japanese, respectively.
>> The most popular dishes ordered by Boston residents are Chicken Tikka Masala, Pad Thai and Pizza, respectively.
>> Boston ranks #3 as a top tipping city, preceded by Atlanta (#1) and Baltimore (#2), and followed by Chicago (#4) and Dallas (#5).
>> Boston ranks #6 for most delivery orders after 7 PM.
>> Boston ranks #7 for most delivery orders for lunch/midday.
>> Boston ranks #6 for most delivery orders for breakfast.
>> Boston ranks #6 for most repeat orders.
>> Popular reasons for delivery: 36% of renters don’t want to cook, 17% hate the clean-up, and 20% don’t want to leave their apartments (brrr!)
>> If you order in, you order in a lot: almost one-fifth (19%) of renters order in once per week and 17% order in between two to five times per week
Renters order for themselves or for two: 77% of renters’ food delivery orders are for when they’re eating alone or ordering for two
According to delivery.com data:
>> In Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas, the most popular delivered food item is Crab Rangoon.
>> Nationwide in October 2012, Sunday was the most popular day of the week for delivery, and the most popular cuisine ordered was Deli/Diner
>> New Yorkers and San Franciscans place more delivery orders than anyone else, at all times of day – breakfast, lunch/mid-day and dinner
