Consumer Financial Protection Bureau On Trail Of Escalating Bank Fees
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is in New York today to get consumer reaction to bank fees and services.
CFPB Director Richard Cordray Tuesday said the bureau was investigating bank fees, demanding data from banks. Last year, the bureau said, bank fees reached about $35 per customer, an increase of 17 percent in five years. Consumers were charged about $38 billion in overdraft fees last year, according to reports.
