Down Payments Drop On Home Mortgages As Lenders See Less Risk

The average down payment from potential home-mortgage borrowers in the third quarter was 15.74 percent, down from 16.1 percent in the 2nd quarter, according to figures released Wednesday by LendingTree.
Average loan amounts also dropped to $218,343 in the quarter, down from $221,694 the previous quarter.
