The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Connecticut was $3.84 in the past month, up 5.8 percent from $3.63, according to the AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report released Tuesday.
The national average hit $3.51 a gallon, up from 3.48 a week ago, the first time the $3.50 mark has been surpassed this early in the year. Be prepared, say analysts, for some of the highest prices ever later this year.
John Hofmeister, former CEO of Shell Oil USA and founder of the advocacy group Citizens for Affordable Energy, told CNBC that prices will hit $5 a gallon nationally this summer.
A year ago, the average price was $3.35 a gallon.
Here are some average prices this month in surrounding states, with prices last month in parenthesis.
Massachusetts $3.60 ($3.41)
Rhode Island $3.66 ($3.47)
New York $3.84 ($3.64)
New Hampshire $3.54 ($3.36)
Vermont $3.64 ($3.47)

    Hows the economy now!

  2. Jenny says:

How about an explanation of why we are being charged such ridiculously high rates for gas?
Why have gas prices gone up about 50 cents in a month?
The big question is not what’s it gonna reach but WHY???????
And then what the hell are we supposed to do when it costs $70 or more to fill our tanks? Get a second job to pay for the gas to drive to our real jobs?

Hi are you kidding me how the heck can any one afford to go on vacation. When this is happening.

Google “Peak Oil”. Gas will be going up, and up, and up. It’s resource depletion, competition from China and India, and the decline of the dollar.

  5. RationalGuy says:

Gas prices are speculative. With the issues in (for example) Iran and Israel, with Iran threating to cut off the Strait of Hormuz, speculators raise the price of oil futures and our prices go up. It’s completely stupid, of course, and there won’t be a “correction” if nothing happens, but that’s the way it works.

Furthermore, our oil/gas is subsidized by our government. (Not like it is in, say, Iran or Venezuela, but it is.) We’re exracting a fossil fuel from 2 miles down in politically unstable countries around the world (Yes, I know most of our oil comes from Canada), shipping it, refining it, shipping it again and you think $5 is outrageous?

How much do you pay for your bottled water which is merely tap water from NJ? How much would that be a gallon? We have the technology to make cars that go triple per gallon than we have now. Why arent’ they in production?
