The Playbar, the first soundbar from Sonos, is the smartest speaker in the room.

Naturally. It’s just like all the other Sonos wireless speakers: Apple-like simplicity, sophisticated software, supreme music streamer, ultra-stable wireless connection and good-for-its-size sound.

The Playbar is all that. It’s also $699, an expensive companion for most big-screen HDTVs. This is not an impulse purchase. Like the original Play:5 ($399) music system and the small-fry Play:3 ($299) speaker, the Playbar excels at playing whatever’s on your mobile device (Apple or Android) or laptop without wires and with little effort.
