Survey: 72 Percent Of America’s 50 Largest Credit Unions Offer Free Checking

If you’re looking for a free checking account, start at a credit union: a survey by Bankrate.com found that 72 percent of America’s 50 largest credit unions offer the freebies. Only 39 percent of banks in the survey offer no-strings free checking.
Bankrate.com says 96 percent of credit-union accounts it surveyed are free can become free when linked to other bank activity like direct deposit, e-statements, transactions or other accounts.
