Standby Generator On Standby

Any house with a standby generator should never lack two things: electricity and the envy of neighbors.

Except, of course, if the standby generator is sitting in the garage weeks after it was delivered, still bound to the shipping pallet. When Butch Arnold (not his real name) contacted The Bottom Line in late September, the Cummins Onan generator already had spent 10 weeks in his West Hartford garage. The standby generator wasn’t installed and fully operational until early February — almost seven months after he ordered it online from an authorized dealer.
