State Sen. Andrew Roraback  has legislative experience and the Republican Party’s endorsement. He also benefits from the large political and social network that he has established during his many years as a state lawmaker.

That makes him the person to beat in the Republican 5th District congressional primary, said former state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell Jr. this week.

“To some degree, its Andrew’s to lose,” said Farrell, a Republican who lives in Wallingford.

With nearly two weeks until the primary, most agree. They say Justin Bernier, Mark Greenberg and Lisa Wilson-Foley bring their own strengths to the race, but they are quick to add that Roraback, a 52-year-old attorney and state senator from Goshen, has the edge.

The problems the nation is facing are extraordinary, and the 5th District needs a leader who has experience in making policy, who knows the issues and the structure of the community and who is not afraid to speak up to leadership, said former U.S. Rep. Nancy Johnson, a Republican who represented the 5th District for 24 years until she lost her bid for re-election in 2007. Roraback is the right person for the job, she said.
