The day before Democratic voters cast their ballots to pick a nominee in the Fifth District race, Dan Roberti has picked up a high-profile endorsement that outdoes all the others:

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

A campaign spokeswoman said Clinton knows Roberti personally through James Carville, a Democratic political strategist who endorsed Roberti last week.

Like others who’ve lauded Roberti’s candidacy, Bubba touted Dan’s past volunteerism and the freshness of his ideas.

“He’s always working to make a difference for other people, and he’s good at it,” Clinton said in a statement. “That’s why I know that in Congress he will bring fresh ideas to get our economy moving again, while protecting Social Security and Medicare and supporting women’s rights.”

Roberti, who has not made a public appearance in several days, thanked Clinton for the nod.

“The endorsement is a great honor, and I pledge that if elected as congressman, I will work toward returning the country to the kind of prosperity that was the hallmark of the Clinton administration,” he said.

  1. David McCluskey says:

Clintons don’t do well in CT Democratic primaries. Bill lost to Jerry Brown in ’92 and Hillary lost to President Obama in 2010. I guess the guys from Arkansas + Louisiana are really residents of K Street in DC. Disappointed, but not certainly Not surprised.

In case anyone still had doubts about Bill Clinton’s lack of integrity or his pejorative attitudes toward women, his endorsement of Roberti surely seals the deal. Roberti’s father bought Clinton’s endorsement. Who and what else does Daddy think he can buy?

Why would anyone trust Roberti? Or Donovan? They both seem to think votes can be bought and sold.

Elizabeth Esty is the best candidate and the only one with both the principles and the intelligence to get things done. She is also the one most likely to win the general election.

Voting for Elizabeth Esty will strengthen the Democratic voice in Congress that we so desperately need.
