Boston Calling: Labriola Set To Meet with Romney Camp Thursday
State Republican party Chairman Jerry Labriola has long maintained that Connecticut could be a battleground state this fall. On Thursday, he’ll have the chance to make his case to Romney campaign officials.
Labriola will meet with the Romney folks at an undisclosed location in Hartford, he said. He will make a pitch that Connecticut, where a recent Quinnipiac University poll shows President Obama leading by just 7 percentage points, could be in play.
“They need to make a strategic decision” about whether Connecticut is worth an investment of resources, Labriola said.
He maintains it is. The erosion of Obama support in Connecticut came with “no resources, no effort, no advertising” on the part of Republicans, Labriola said. “That sets the table for my case: What if you actually made an investment?”
Connecticut is the only state, aside from hotly contested New Hampshire, that Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, has any hopes of winning. A modest investment of resources in the nutmeg state could reap big rewards for the GOP, Labriola said.

Paint The State Red!!!
Former Republican Gov. Rell won in landslides. Tom Foley nearly defeated the now hugely unpopular Democrat Gov. Malloy. So a Romney win in CT is possible. More important, a modest Romney investment will benefit the other Republicans on the ticket and force the Democrats to spend money where they wouldn’t otherwise. Romney advertising or attending events in CT-04 and CT-05 could pay enormous dividends for Republicans.
The Republican Party has a chance to take the state if it includes the grassroots activists. Hopefully, they are included in the Thursday meeting. At a minimum it will make the Obama camp use resources to try to hold the state. Either way it is a win-win situation.
We want to see a huge Romney Rally on the Enfield Green. That place is perfectly positioned for maximum effect.
Only minutes from Bradley Airport. I-91 a stone’s throw away. Thousands of nearby parking spots. A very hospitable Enfield RTC.
Enfield alone would put 10,000+ on the green. Add to that all of conservative western Mass., eastern NY and all of Connecticut. It makes great sense.
In this case I agree with Jerry.
If ever there was a moment in time when the people of Connecticut might go red, this is it. We are accustomed to being ignored; a very small cash infusion will make a big difference. This bunch of Jankees is used to making due with little.
Which brings us back to you, Jerry. It is foolish to throw away 7500 conservative votes because you think you don’t need us. How are you going to explain Andrew’s loss to the Party if he loses by fewer votes? We are paying attention.
Good luck!
I have long believed that CT could go red with the right candidate and a little bit of resources and time. This would provide a major boost to the states GOP morale
Wayne Winsley is the only Republican candidate running with the FULL and GROWING support of Connecticut’s conservative grass roots activists. At a ceremony celebrating the grand opening of his campaign headquarters in Stratford Center, Martha Dean handed Winsley the torch signifying that he is now the new standard-bearer of defenders of the US Constitution.
That’s a rare honor.

Chris Ford, Wayne Winlsey is going to be slaughtered and as usual, you and your Tea Party fools always back losers like Martha Dean and Joe Visconti. Does your “FULL and GROWING support” include you and your band of cheapskates actually writing checks to Winsley? I highly doubt it, LOL!
If I were Romney, I’d tell Labriola he was crazy. Romney is behind and needs to win key states like Ohio, Michigan, Florida and Virginia to win the election. If Jerry wasn’t so self-centered and egotistical, he’d realize that. If you’re campaigning as a Republican for Congress in the 3rd district you don’t waste one ounce of your time or one dollar of your campaign war chest on New Haven and since Labriola ran for Congress in the 3rd district in 2010, he knows this is true. Now he’s asking Romney to campaign in the third most Democratic state in the country? Yes, Jerry Labriola is indeed off his rocker and the Romney folks may humor him but if they want to win, they’ll not waste valuable resources in Connecticut, that’s for sure.
Wishfull thinking, yet a good ploy to raise money from the suckers who beleive it.
Wellp, the Connecticut media’s strong head wind of liberalism is a force to be reckoned with. However, I have not met very many people who will vote for Obama this time around. In fact I only know of one and I am not sure that person will vote. Of course I don’t know many government moochers that live on the government dole all the time that would support Obama. Most the people I know are actually productive citizens so my observation may not count.
I assume the author meant that New Hampshire is the only other state in New England that Romney has a chance of winning.
Really hard to see Romney winning CT, though it would be good for our congressional candidates if he came close. But he needs to focus on Florida, Ohio and Virginia.
This is great news and Chairman Labriola deserves enormous credit for continuing to press our case with the Romney folks. There should be a “spillover effect” for Mitt Romney as he is from a neighboring state.
We have not had a president of the United States from the Norteast since JFK 52 years ago!
