Republican Brian K. Hill announced today he is suspending his U.S. Senate campaign.

“I plan to support the eventual Republican nominee.”  Hill, an attorney who has an office in Hartford, said in a statement.

Hill failed to secure enough support at the state Republican convention last month to qualify for an Aug. 14 primary. In order to participate, he would have had to secure the signatures of 8,319 Republican voters, a challenge he acknowledged was insurmountable.

“It is very unfortunate that we did not get enough Republican volunteers to help get the 8319 petition signatures from Republican voters, but we would like to thank those who did sign and offer to assist.”

Hill, a military veteran, ran as a write-in candidate in 2010 but this time around, he sought the Republican nomination.

Truly a shame, Brian K Hill a man with character did not outlast Donovan.

  2. I hope he runs again for maybe State Senate or Rep. God knows we don’t have enough troops there.

Brian Hill is a class act who the Republican party is lucky to have. Both he and Linda McMahon lent their support in last years Bridgeport Mayoral race. It is my sincerest hope we have not seen the last of this fine man.

Brian K. Hill blundered right out of the political starting gate! In 2010 Hill also ran for U.S. Senate. What did Albert Einstein say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome?

Hill missed a magnificent opportunity to run as a Democrat, both is 2010 and in 2012. After all, he voted for Barack Obama in 2008. His defense of his vote doesn’t hold water if you are a Republican. Why did so many of us fear an Obama presidency? We were awake and not blinded, that’s why.

Mr. Hill has an impressive resume, he’s a highly intelligent and genuinely warm and charming individual. He might have made news running as a Democrat, not for Senate, but for House of Representatives against John Larson. Larson is a shell of what he once was, if anything. And if he was successful dumping Larson, he would have harvested a huge chunk of the Republican vote in District One, come November 6.

Every argument Brian Hill piled before the Reublican primary voters would have had as good a reception among Democrat voters. How refreshing for Democrats to have a real choice again – a fiscal conservative and a social moderate. Hill’s identity with the GOP quickly dissolved, however, when people learned his voting record.

We wish Mr. Hill all the best in his future endeavors. We relish the thought of more military veterans becoming politically active. There is a treasure in that well waiting to be pumped up.
