Democrat Christopher Donovan is staying in the Congressional race, sources said Sunday afternoon.

The embattled House Speaker has been under pressure ever since his campaign finance director was arrested by the FBI in a federal corruption investigation. Donovan has not been charged.

Donovan fired his campaign manager and hired a new manager – well-known operative Tom Swan. During a press conference Friday, Swan emphatically said that Donovan had done nothing wrong and was not quitting the race.

Since then, top-level Democrats have been noticeably cool toward Donovan – refraining from publicly embracing him. Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy said that Donovan needs to quickly answer questions about the situation. Attorney General George Jepsen, whose office is separate from the federal prosecutors who are investigating the case, said that the allegations are troubling.

Donovan’s supporters have told him that he should stay in the race if he has done nothing wrong. Swan told reporters that he looked Donovan in the eye before accepting the new job as campaign manager, and Donovan told him that he had done nothing wrong. Swan said he would never have taken the job if believed for an instant that Donovan had done anything wrong.

Why drop out? Corruption is a badge of honor for Democrats. Just ask Charlie Rangel and Bill Clinton. The bigger creep you are, the higher you rise!

At the very least the campaign is going to have to use much of it’s available cash to pay Day Pitney! Twardy does not come cheap. It looks to me as if Esty is going to be the nominee because once the legal bills are paid there won’t be enough money for damage control and the primary message. I bet the unions and private donors run for cover!

We will learn a bunch about the people that live in the 5th if this guy actually survives until the primary.
