Chris Donovan Withdraws From 5th District Race
The secretary of the state’s office confirms that Chris Donovan has informed them that he wants his name off the November ballot in the 5th District.
Donovan, who lost the Democratic primary to Elizabeth Esty earlier this month, was the endorsed candidate for the Working Families Party. This entitled him to a line on the November ballot.
“I have received Speaker Donovan’s letter withdrawing his candidacy for Congress in the 5th Congressional District,” said Secretary Merrill, Connecticut’s chief elections official. “Since Speaker Donovan was the endorsed candidate for the 5th Congressional District of the Working Families party, that party now has until September 5th to nominate someone else if it wants to put a candidate on the November general election ballot.”
Esty faces a popular Republican, Andrew Roraback, in the November election.
Under pressure from unions and leading Democrats to step aside, Donovan informed Denise Merrill’s office today that he was withdrawing. He has yet to endorse Esty.

Hopefully all goes well for CD, he’s a good family man, whose underlinks got caught in a cigarette mess.
I guess Esty has decided to champion a few union issues…like higer taxes for union raises in the future and of course free medical forever….
We should give our union folks something to hold on to, Malloy gave the billionaire 100 million, he should give the union guys and gals something for getting him elected.
Were there 7 or 8 arrested in the campaign? Who was in charge? How is it that CD knew nothing…..maybe he should step aside to review his accountability and supervision ability. A likeable guy just like Obama, may just not have the skill set to handle the position.
Jeff Russell for U.S. Senate.
No Loss. All the Democrat’s in Conn will lose in this election. The people of Conn have had ENOUGH!!!!!
