Chris Murphy is the latest candidate to court the so-called women’s vote. With help from his congressional colleague Rosa DeLauro, his campaign has launched “Women for Murphy.”

The effort will highlight Murphy’s work promoting women’s healthcare initiatives and his record supporting abortion rights.

“We need Chris in the Senate to fight back on the extremist Republican agenda and stand up for the issues that matter to us,” DeLauro said. “I just don’t want Chris in the Senate, I need him there as my partner to fight back against Republicans that want to take women’s rights back to 1950. I can’t think of a fight more necessary to take on or a partner better to have at my side than Chris.”

Murphy faces former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz for the Democratic nomination. Several Republicans are also running, including former Congressman Chris Shays and former wrestling and entertainment executive Linda McMahon.

McMahon has also made reaching women voters a cornerstone of her campaign.
