Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon has been hitting Chris Murphy over what she says is his lack of a jobs plan and missed committee hearings.

Now Murphy is hitting back. In a new ad titled “That’s Real,” Murphy, a Democrat who has served in Congress since 2006, defended his record and criticized McMahon as someone who will do anything to win the seat.

“Linda McMahon will do and say anything to get ahead, like running false negative ads,” Murphy says in the new TV spot. “My voting record is 97%. I’m focused on creating jobs, like when I convinced Congress to invest in cleaning up this industrial site, putting 75 people to work. Next, companies here will expand and attract hundreds more Connecticut jobs. I’m Chris Murphy and I approve this message because that’s not just a plan, that’s real.”

You believe everything you read? I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale – you interested?

    • P Saddlemire says:

Well, I guess that proves it then. Or perhaps you could actually look up the record, which is public. Linda McMahon is will do and say whatever she thinks promotes her disreputable candidacy. She did not appear for a debate today in Hartford, but sent her minions of 21-22 year olds to chant, “Where is the job plan?” They were completely silent, though, when Chris Murphy explained, in detail, his 5 point job plan to move America back to work. No Linda in sight. I think you will find her on TV.

yeah….97% voting record of every single left wing progressive piece of legislation. Murphy is a hypocrit. When he’s here he lies about being ‘bi-partison’. When he’s there, he does what Nancy tells him to do. Vote for Linda.

  2. derek says:

He is just a lap dog. He missed the meetings face it.. It’s part of the congressional record. If I missed 20% of my scheduled meeting I would be fired. I guarantee he was living the fund rasing and enjoying the high life that we pay for.. I say cut there pay to 25K.Term limits and you will see all these career politicians runaway both republican and democrat.

  3. sarah says:

I’m a Republican and even I know most of those meetings are bogus and so does McMahon, or else she’s a real dummy. Even Simons came to Murphy’s defense on this. Yeh, he didn’t attend the meetings, but NO ONE DOES! Study up bros!

doing something, or in this case nothing, because everyone else does, doesn’t make it right. Think Lowell Wicker v. Joe Liberman (1988).

Connecticut needs and deserves a Senator that will go to Washington to represent us and get results. Congressman Murphy has obvious failed at this. One needs to look no further than the unemployment roles or tax bill to realize that.

Its time to go in a different direction than to elect career politicians like Chris Murphy.

  4. MyUserNameCourant says:

Murphy made 97% of the vote meetings…. to push a liberal agenda. But if he made those votes, and has a 20% overall attendance record, then his attendance at hearings, that should conceivably educate him on the issues he will vote on, must be low. Very low. So, what does that say for his ability to vote effectively and intelligently, rather than vote in a partisan, uninformed manner?

I view the Hartford Courant article on McMahon’s attacks on Murphy’s voting record, referenced by a poster above, as ‘free campaign advertising’ by the Courant (writer) because most of the article space is a defense of Murphy against McMahon’s criticisms.

Finally, if there are so many useless meetings that Murphy skipped, WHY IS CONGRESS wasting so much time on those useless meetings rather than focus on important matters? Can we vote in some politicians who were in businesses that were run efficiently rather than just meeting to discuss ‘doing’?

  5. MyUserNameCourant says:

Derek’s call for term limits misses a key point; accountability. Why would a politician serving his last term under a term limits system do anything other than what would serve his or her interests in the business world when his time in politics ends? Think about the incredible ‘damage’ Obama could do within a second and last term as POTUS.

  6. Sharon says:

Murphy claims that he is focused on jobs, I want to know whose jobs? He voted twice this year alone to cut back on submarine production. I have a news flash for Mr. Murphy, every time there is a cut back on production there is at least one round of layoffs down here in S.E. Ct. Some of those layoffs have affected hundreds if not thousands of jobs.

  7. Bill M. says:

Good ad. Is there enough white trash in CT to give McMahon a shot?

    • skyrocket27 says:

Bill M.-not sure what you specifically mean by the use of the term “white trash,” although I suspect its something racist. Nice job adding to the political discourse! May I suggest you crawl back into the hole you came out of while the rest of us adults debate the real life issues faced by Americans?

  8. HonestAbe says:

I still ask; is McMahon willing to garantee she will attend 100% of committee meetings? Will she resign if she cannot meet that comitment? Reasonable people know that there are competing commitments and some meetings will be missed. Personally, I only care about what gets done, not what gets said in committee meetings.

To the person that says Muphy votes 100% with Pelosi, you should check your facts.

  9. Boehner's House says:

Right, the answer is to pay them $25k per year. You’ll be sure to glean all the talent in the world to run for office at that salary. Moreover, unless there’s something amorphous about you, you can’t be in two places at one time. So, like every other Member of Congress, if Chris Murphy attends one meeting, he can’t be at another meeting scheduled for the same time. You might not know this, but the Committee leadership and staff doesn’t check each Members calendar so everyone can make a hearing.

Concerning your “liberal agenda” remark, it’s probably wise to note that since 2010 the Republican’s have been in control of the House and the Congressional approval ratings have never been lower than they are right now. Who doesn’t love wasting time and money on 33 votes to repeal HCR without ever once offering an alternative…Now you got Akin and King running around talking about “legitimate rape” (Akin) and “I’ve never heard of a woman getting pregnant from statutory rape” (King)…The Republicans are trying to lose this whole election and I’m more than pleased to sit back and watch the circus roll by.
