Nancy DiNardo was unanimously re-elected as party chairwoman Wednesday by the 72-member Democratic State Central Committee. DiNardo, who is the first woman in the history of the state to serve as party chair, has held this position since 2005. She enters her fifth term with an all-Democratic Congressional delegation and a Democratic Governor in the state.
“With the leadership that’s now in place, I’m confident the Party is poised for another successful election cycle in 2013,” said Gov. Malloy in a press release. Malloy, who was elected under DiNardo’s leadership, is the state’s first Democratic Governor in 24 years.
DiNardo has been involved in Connecticut politics for over four decades, serving both on town councils and local boards and also as chair of the Democratic Town Committee in Trumbull. She has been a member of the state committee since 1998.
“I’m excited to get to work as we prepare for the upcoming municipal elections and the 2014 election cycle,” said DiNardo in a statement.
