Democrat Elizabeth Esty was endorsed for the 5th Congressional District seat by Connecticut’s entire congressional delegation Tuesday.

Members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation gathered at the Democratic Party’s headquarters in Hartford Tuesday to officially endorse Democrat Elizabeth Esty for the 5th Congressional District seat.”We’ll do everything in our power to get her elected,” said U.S. Rep. Christopher Murphy, who currently represents the 5th District.

Murphy, a Democrat, is vacating the House seat because of his bid for U.S. Senate.

Tuesday, Connecticut’s delegation stressed that the Democratic Party needs to hold on to the 5th District seat, and they said Esty is the right person to fill the open seat.

Esty is running against Republican Andrew Roraback. Democrat Christopher Donovan is also still in the race as the endorsed candidate for the Working Families Party.

“We need her in Washington,” said U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Esty, saying that Esty will fight for the middle class and is ready and willing to balance the country’s budget.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes described Esty as a thinker who is willing to vote for what she thinks is best. U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal said Esty would make a good congresswoman.

“She’s tough, relentless, persistent and caring,” Blumenthal said.

U.S. Rep. John Larson was not able to make Tuesday’s press conference. U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney was at the event, but had to leave early.

Reacting to Tuesday’s press conference was Roraback.

“Today’s endorsement of Elizabeth Esty by Connecticut’s Democratic political monopoly is just an endorsement of their failed status quo,” he said in a prepared statement. “This “show of support” shows vividly that we need an independent voice of fiscal sanity in Washington, not another robotic, go along, get along partisan who will march to the tune of the Democrats in the U.S.”
