U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty will serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in her first term in Congress, her office announced Friday.

The assignment puts her at the forefront of several key issues of concern for her 5th District constituents, including public transit and addressing infrastructure damaged during the recent spate of storms.

\”Serving on this important committee will provide me with the opportunity to advance a comprehensive transportation plan to help keep down commuting costs for workers, help small businesses and manufacturers save money and create jobs and promote new industries while providing the necessary infrastructure to ensure their success,\’\’ she said in a statement announcing the appointment.

This is the first of Esty\’s committee assignments.
