In this week’s Government Watch column: The U.S. Attorney’s office in Connecticut has subpoenaed records from Hartford’s regional anti-poverty agency, the Community Renewal Team,  The Courant has learned. Read the full column by clicking here.

The subpoena from the office of Connecticut’s top federal prosecutor was served days after the Feb. 12 publication of a Courant investigative column about CRT. The column reported that Paul Puzzo, CEO of the Community Renewal Team until 2005, has been receiving at least $85,000 a year as the agency’s vice president — but he rarely appears at the office, doesn’t have a desk there, and now spends significant time at a waterfront condominium unit he and his wife own in Florida. The Feb. 12 column can be read by clicking here.

  1. Lack of Oversight says:

Many good and honest people work at CRT, they are committed to their work. Mr. Puzzo is gone. However, a game change needs to occur. The Pres/CEO of CRT and Board Chair have to go!! Their lack of oversight, and obvious neglect of matters at hand clearly endangers future funding for CRT and jeopardizes the clients. Ms. Donovan is one of the “good ones” that have left, bring her back. Why haven’t we heard from the Pres/CEO? Where is the Pres/CEO? Is she dreaming of her future Florida deal?

  2. In My Book says:

According to CRT Puzzo’s “compensation package is funded only by non-federal and non-state sources. Money comes from unrestricted private, local and corporate funding, as well as CRT’s performance-based programs.” In my book if the money originates from Tax Payer dollars you can call it something else (performance-based programs) but it still originated from my pocket. Local, State and Federal money have rules that must be followed.
