Former Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell served as lieutenant governor when the lottery shooting occured in 1998; she was governor in 2010 when a gunman killed eight people at beer distributor in Manchester.
Rell, who hails from Brookfield, which borders Newtown, wrote an opinion piece for the News-Times of Danbury about last week’s school shooting. “There is evil in our world, and we must recognize that,” she writes. “It is time for a national dialogue on how to address this malady that has beset our nation.”
