Gene Ojakian Passes

After a 50-year struggle with multiple sclerosis, Eugene Ojakian has died.

\"ojakianOjakian was 83 and a resident of Wethersfield. His son Mark serves as Gov. Dannel Malloy\’s chief of staff. A Hartford native, Ojakian was a Korean War veteran who spent over three decades working for Anderson Little, a clothing retailer.  He was also a devoted Red Sox fan and active member of St. Brigid\’s in West Hartford.

Gene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy. She was his primary caregiver during his struggle with MS, as well as his four children: Mark and his husband Jason Veretto of West Hartford; Paul and his wife Tina of Rosewell, Georgia; Cathy Runquist and her husband Steve of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; Chris and his fiancé Marie Lanoy of Los Angeles, California.

Calling hours for Gene will be at the Sheehan Funeral Home, West Hartford, on Wednesday, June 26 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Helena Church, 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford, on Thursday at 10 a.m.
