GOP Debate: Showdown In Newtown
Tonight’s debate in an increasingly bellicose Republican primary for the 5th District nomination promises much much more.
Will a desperate Justin Bernier erupt? Can Lisa Wilson-Foley dodge the Rowland smear? Is Andrew Roraback conservative enough to ride his party endorsement to victory on Aug. 14?
Am I the only one who thought the good-old boys were ganging up on the one girl in the race on Monday? In a race where nearly every vote counts — 11,000 or 12,000 die-hard Republican votes could win this – a late-in-the-game female tilt toward Wilson-Foley is not insignificant.
And finally, will the sly fox of Litchfield, Mark Greenberg, slip into the henhouse and kill all the chickens on primary day?
The most interesting scenario has Bernier – who lost both his campaign manager and spokesman after a combative display Monday night in Brookfield — aiming buckshot at all other candidates. This leaves Roraback and Wilson-Foley punching it out in a fight for the Republican middle while Greenberg — the Tea Party’s man in the 5th –scoops up the hardcore right and rides to victory.

Nobody likes a man who beats on a woman. Bernier and Roraback cannot run on records since they have never created jobs. Roraback is a liberal who won’t self fund and can’t let people know what he really thinks. Beating on the woman doesn’t help him!
I really need to read more of Rick Green’s articles to see if he refers to the far left as “hardcore.”
Funny thing about the “hardcore” right. They are about sticking close to the limits on government imposed by our Constitution.
Greenberg didn’t really beat up on anybody. It was refreshing to hear him say “I’m not going to beat up on Lisa” and then actually talk about the issue.
The Courant is starting to figure out that Greenberg is the odds-on favorite next Tuesday. Some of us figured this out over a year ago. Mark’s win will be labeled as an upset, but people who are really paying attention saw this happening a long time ago.
Everybody knows that Rick Green is all-in for Lisa Wilson Foley (or is it Lisa Wilson-Foley).
I don’t think he is. He was as revolted as anyone when her scandal broke. Sure, he seems to have discounted the issue in recent days, but I think he still prefers Andrew, but expresses concern of it going another way, toward Mark or Lisa.
I’m glad the Courant endorsed Andrew. The endorsement of a left-of-center editor can only be a curse to a Republican in a four-way race.
Facts are facts and being a conservative isn’t a temporary re-label job, but a lifelong commitment. Politics is a rough business, whoever plays, and all participants should expect to take hits. The press just provides the venue.
Bernier hit, and he hit hard because the facts are the facts. I can assure you he’ll take that same energy against whatever machine-dem-candidate they eventually run. He is the only one who can actually win in November.
What a great pic above…
Looks like Dopey on the left side (Roraback) and Sleepy on the right side (Greenberg). Of course Ms. Lisa Wilson-Foley ain’t quite Snow White but she tries! LOL.
You people: Mr. Green has a job to do.
