House Democrats are now backing away from a proposal to block the release of information about taxpayer dollars the state gives to businesses.

A provision that would have created a new exception to the Freedom of Information Act to block the public release of that information was included in a draft of one of the special session bills released this morning (PDF, the language begins on on page 261 at line 7631).

But the Connecticut Mirror has reported that House Majority Leader J. Brendan Sharkey, D-Hamden, said lawmakers will amend the 600-page omnibus bill to strip out the FOIA measure after pressure from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office and from several media outlets.

The Courant mentioned the FOIA provision in an editorial this morning as an example of the dozens of topics contained within the two bills the Legislature is set to consider today.

Can you believe the ARROGANCE of the Socialist-Dems???

They want to give away tax dollars with complete impunity, and with no accountability, by exempting their shennagans from FOIA requests.

    Come November, Re-Elect No-One !

Agreed, they all have their heads in the sand. Spending our money as if there is no tomorrow, there might not be.
