California Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday signed that state’s landmark law permitting undocumented immigrants to obtain state-issued driver’s licenses.
“This is only the first step,” Brown said shortly after signing the measure outside Los Angeles City Hall. “When a million people without their documents drive legally with respect to the state of California, the rest of this country will have to stand up and take notice.”
The Los Angeles Times has more.
Earlier this year, Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed a similar measure that will grant driving privileges undocumented immigrants in this state. The Connecticut law will take effect in Jan., 2015.
