U.S. Rep. John Larson and other top House Democrats met with White House economic adviser Gene Sperling today and held a press conference afterward.

The Democratic leaders ruled out any cuts to Medicare beneficiaries, a stance that Larson, the outgoing chair of the Democratic caucus, said he hopes will find common ground with his Republican House colleagues.

“I do not believe that Republicans want to see their [constituents] lose these benefits or be denied these benefits in this time. So I think that there is a common ground for us to work under that is both actuarially sound and focuses on insurance, as opposed to an entitlement,” he said.
