U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon will be on the ballot twice this November.

By winning the August primary, McMahon secured the Republican line, and the secretary of the state’s office announced Tuesday that she will also be listed as an Independent.

McMahon needed signatures from 7,500 registered voters to qualify to appear on the ballot as an Independent, said Av Harris, communications director for the secretary of the state’s office. The deadline to submit signatures was Aug. 4.

After McMahon submitted the necessary signatures, Harris said they had to be verified by town clerks before being tallied by the secretary of the state’s office.

McMahon’s campaign couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday, but Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola said that the cross-endorsement “has the potential to be a net positive benefit to Linda in a close race.” Every little advantage helps, he said, adding that the cross-endorsement may not be needed given the “terrific campaign” McMahon is running.

Labriola said Tuesday that he is pleased to see that the Independent Party is endorsing many Republican candidates this fall.

“We’re pleased that the Independent Party has recognized and embraced the common sense solutions offered by the Republican Party and has chosen to endorse many of our candidates, such as Linda McMahon, …,” he said.

McMahon is running against Democrat Christopher Murphy for the Senate seat. Murphy also will appear on the ballot twice. He will be listed as a Democrat and as a candidate of the Working Families Party.
