This morning’s University of Connecticut-Hartford Courant poll showing Republican Linda McMahon and Democrat Chris Murphy locked in a statistical dead heat in the race for U.S. Senate gave both campaigns something to boast about.

From Murphy spokesman Eli Zupnick: “As Connecticut voters learn about Linda McMahon’s record as a CEO who laid off workers while taking multi-million dollar bonuses, and about her plans to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires like her and dismantle Medicare for Connecticut seniors, they are rejecting her just as they did in 2010. Meanwhile, middle class families across the state are supporting Chris Murphy, who has consistently fought for Connecticut jobs and middle class families.”

From McMahon spokesman Todd Abrajano: “As with all polls, the new UConn poll is just a snapshot in time. The fact that for the past several weeks all public polling in this historically Democratic state has show this race to be a statistical tie is noteworthy and shows that Congressman Chris Murphy is struggling to win  over an electorate that is tired of ethically challenged professional politicians.”

The poll of 517 likely voters showed Murphy ahead, 37 percent to 33 percent, but with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points, the race is basically a tie, poll Director Jennifer Dineen said. The survey was conducted from Sept. 11-16.

4 Responses to McMahon, Murphy React to New UConn/Courant Poll

Is it too much to ask for the Courant to mention that there is a third candidate running? Paul Passarelli is running from the Libertarian Party.

Just picking a spot to post a comment on Murphy not paying his property taxes. You know, since that story has no comment section.

Murphy has been sued for non-payment of rent. Murphy has been sued for non-payment of his mortgage. Murphy was late paying his property taxes. While the die-hard liberals will make excuses for this, and/or not care about these issues, a clear pattern is emerging.

I am not sure how one can ignore what seems to be an obvious sense of entitlement that permeates Murphy’s politics and personal life. He was entitled to live in his landlord’s apartment without paying rent. He was entitled to live in the bank’s house without paying his mortgage. He was entitled to own property without paying taxes.

Is there any question that his career as a Senator will be entitlement based and corruption filled?

I’m curious how the Courant justifies this poll, given the sampling rate. The Courant used a sampling of 53% of Democrats, while only using 18% independent & 29% Republican. The poll is wildly skewed. However, if Murphy thinks pulling a statistical tie with McMahon while oversampling Democrats is a victory, I’d hate to see what a legitimate sampling rate says.

Yeah this negative campaigning is getting old… especially since year after year our politicians have been getting more & more suited to it. Linda keeps reminding us Chris is a career politician and Chris keeps reminding us she is a successful businessperson who has created jobs in an environment which is screaming for them. So they spend MILLIONS to convince us the OTHER one is worse, rather than they are both right…
