The official numbers are due to the Federal Election Commission until midnight tonight, but Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Chris Murphy says he has $2.2 million in the bank as the campaign heads into its final weeks.

Murphy had earlier reported raising about $3 million in the crucial third-quarter fundraising period, which runs from July 1 through Sept. 30. (Actually, the Murphy campaign said it brought in $180,000 from July 1 through the 25 and another $2.85 million from July 25 through Sept. 30.)

It’s an impressive amount, though it’s only about a quarter of what Democrat Elizabeth Warren raised in the fiercely contested Massachusetts Senate race.

No word on how much Murphy’s Republican opponent, multimillionaire former wrestling executive Linda McMahon, brought in. McMahon spent $50 million of her own money in her losing 2010 Senate bid; this time around, she has been collecting contributions, though she also has sunk at least $15 million of her own money into her current run.
