Murphy courted student voters Wednesday at Southern Connecticut State University where he spoke to a room packed with students, teachers, and McMahon protesters. Event turnout seemed to reflect campus-wide interest in Murphy’s campaign and suggests that his message resounds well with the young voters, who engaged and asked questions of the Congressman on topics ranging from McMahon to foreign policy.

Murphy, who has fought to cap Stafford loan rates and preserve Pell Grant funding, boasts a student-friendly voting record and adding events like these to his campaign schedule help build an image of not only commitment but also accessibility. SCSU College Democrats Vice President Michael Lawson said that while representatives for the McMahon campaign frequently visit campus, the candidate herself has been nowhere to be seen.
