New Murphy Ad Hammers McMahon On Contraception, Healthcare
A new Chris Murphy ad blasts his Republican opponent Linda McMahon for demeaning women to “make millions” and for supporting a GOP-led effort to limit access to birth control.
The McMahon campaign says Murphy’s campaign “will do or say anything” and that Linda McMahon is a “pro-choice woman” who believes “all women should be able to use and have access to birth control.”
While she is pro-choice, McMahon has said she would have supported a proposal known as the Blunt Amendment that failed in Congress earlier this year. It would have allowed private employers to restrict access to birth control through company health plans.
At a press conference, the women who appeared in the new ad spoke to reporters. Here’s web correspondent Jenny Wilson’s video. This is Maria Alfonso of Wethersfield speaking.

Hate to break it to these women–I do not believe in the least Linda McMahon demeans women and I am tired of these liberal groups that claim they speak for me. How come these women are not speaking out against the entertainment industries portrayal of women in general? Hollywood has been demeaning women for decades. I would be anyone that if Linda McMahon were a Democrat, none of this would be stated by these liberal groups or the press. It would be chalked up as art, storytelling, entertainment…which is exactly what it is.
well said Laura
There is a very, very big difference between “limiting access to birth control” (what Murphy’s saying) and “not requiring your employer to pay for your birth control so it’s free” (the Blunt amendment). I think it falls under the catogory of “lying”.
Murphy’s parish priest must be so proud of him….
It’s entertainment when the WWE portrays women as objects to be pummeled, stomped on, and otherwise abused and demeaned? And if you can call that garbge art, please visit one of our local museums ASAP. Linda McMahon made millions while helping to lower this country’s cultural standards…no way should she hold any office.
sorry to break the news to you, Laurie, but the country’s ‘cultural standards’ weren’t affected by WWE programming. The programming simply brought the cultural preferences already in place, out into the light of day.
The WWE doesn’t portray women as anything. The women’s lib movement gave women the power to choose for themselves. At the same time, it gave them the power to take responsibility for their choices. Wrestling in the WWE for the glamour, publicity, adoration, and money are personal choices made by powerful, honest women. Why do you begrudge them their right to choose? Could it be you have a double-standard staring you in the face?
Laurie, speaking of lowering our country’s cultural standards – can we assume that you aren’t voting for Obama? After all, he has increased (through on-site advertising and other means), food stamp use by 50% while in office. Doesn’t that lower our standards by encouraging dependency instead of the work ethich that we used to be famous for? Or is this another double-standard?
