The Courant’s Daniela Altimari – on her way to the million dollar Obama fundraisers in Fairfield County – reports a quiet scene at the entrance to Sherwood Island State Park. The beachfront park is closed today because of President Obama’s fundraising visit to Fairfield County.

Under sunny skies and a temperature of 85, officers from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection turned a steady, if sporadic, stream of beach-goers away.

David Slade-Wood, who was in a commuter lot near the beach entrance, said he didn’t have a problem with closing the state park for the president. He said he had not been planning a beach visit.

“So we are inconvenienced on a Monday. It’s the president,” said Slade-Wood, of Clinton. ”We have other beaches. Hammonasset is just down the road and its open.”

Answer our poll, should state have closed a beach for Obama?

One Response to Obama’s Sherwood Island Shut-Down … Meh?

I believe if he was coming to Conn. for official business it would have been appropriate to close whatever was necessary for his visit. To close a state beach for a fundraiser was not right.
