The Quinnipiac University poll wasn’t the only Connecticut political survey released Tuesday.

Public Policy Polling also released a poll and it shows slightly different results. That surveyby the left-leaning polling group, conducted on behalf of the League of Conservation Voters, puts Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Chris Murphy ahead of his Republican rival, Linda McMahon.

Murphy gets 48 percent and McMahon 44 percent, with 8 percent undecided. The survey of 881 Connecticut voters was conducted on Aug. 22 and 23. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 percent.

McMahon has a 45 percent favorable rating and a 47 percent unfavorable rating. Murphy was viewed favorably by 39 percent and unfavorably by 41 percent.

But the good news for Murphy is that 20 percent said they were not sure of their opinion, which suggests his numbers could change. Just 8 percent said they were unsure about their opinion of McMahon.

Murphy spokeswoman Taylor Lavender issued a statement this afternoon on the poll:

“Linda McMahon has spent her entire career peddling sex, violence, and drug abuse at the expense of her own employees and at the expense of Connecticut jobs. Now she’s funneled over $65 million into a marketing campaign to try to fool voters into thinking she’s something she’s not. But McMahon’s wrestling money can’t change her record, and as voters are reminded about McMahon’s miserable record at the WWE, they’ll remember just how wrong she is for Connecticut.”

Digging deeper into the cross tabs, the poll broke down each candidate’s support by gender, race and age. Forty seven percent of white voters favor Murphy; 45 percent go with McMahon. Among other races, the split is 48 percent Murphy, 44 percent McMahon.

McMahon loses by a few percentage points in every age category except voters age 46 to 65. And once again, there’s a gender gap: Murphy gets 55 percent of the women’s vote and McMahon gets 54 percent of the male vote.

The presidential numbers are after the break:

President Obama, a Democrat who led by just 7 percentage points in the Quinnipiac poll, garners 53 percent support in the PPP poll. Republican Mitt Romney has 40 percent, with just 7 percent undecided.

There’s a gender gap here: 62 percent of women voters prefer Obama while 50 percent of the men favor Romney.

Both presidential contenders have their respective bases sewn up: Obama gets 82 percent Democratic support while Romney has 78 percent of Republicans behind him.

    And they’re off !!!!

The only poll that matters is election day. Left and right leaning groups like this one only distorts reality with very questionable motivations. I am surprised that any responsible journalist would publish the results of this kind.

  3. JM says:

Not the biggest fan of Linda, but can these Democrats stop with this peddling of sex, drugs and violence nonsense? Democrats are the biggest friends of Hollywood who peddle all this stuff too, but you will never hear a Democrat blast Hollywood!

Perhaps Congressman Murphy could explain to all of us why he towed the Democratic Party line in voting for a “stimulus” package that not only raised the national debt to historic portions, but also shipped American money and jobs overseas.

Historic national debt, decreased household income, failure to pass a budget in 3 years, 23 million Americans out of work and the fact that 1 in every 3 Americans remain on welfare. These are the problems created by Congressman Murphy and his Democratic collegues.

Connecticut residents know this and will remember on Election Day, least we all continue to suffer the fate Congressman Murphy has put us in.
