The biggest political story of the day is President Barack Obama’s arrival in Connecticut for two big fundraisers that will raise big dollars for his campaign against Republican candidate Mitt Romney.

And the best-known beach in the state today is Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, which has been shut down so that Obama’s helicopter can land there for the fundraisers.

Some politicians have weighed in on the situation, including Republican state chairman Jerry Labriola.

“The president is not coming to Connecticut to talk about the broken economy, high unemployment or his failed stimulus and job-creation programs. No, the President is coming to make a couple of quick hits to scoop up a few million in campaign cash,” Labriola said.

“Connecticut is not a place in the 2012 Obama campaign for the President to meet the public, talk about the issues or even hold a campaign rally. No, our state is just cash cow for the President, a short lay-over with enough time to grab a couple of bags of money.

“So while the temperatures will be rising outside at the empty Sherwood Island State Park, the campaign coffers will be filling inside a mansion where millionaires are holding fundraisers for Barrack Obama’s campaign.

“And while 50 guests pay $35,800 per person to hobnob with President Obama and movie celebrities and Governor Malloy at Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s six-acre beachfront estate in Westport, area families and their children will not be able to go to the beach today because the President’s helicopter is parked there.”
