This ad by the Connecticut-based Democratic Super PAC Progress Connecticut begins airing today. It didn’t work in 2010, but is this a version voters will pay attention to?

In a challenge to WWE efforts to scrub the web of its old, crude, content, Progress Connecticut says:

Any attempt by WWE to coerce YouTube to take down this video for copyright infringement would be clear evidence of illegal coordination between the McMahon campaign and the WWE.

  1. Ben says:

    I mean she lost by 16 in 2010, it worked a little…

With Obama up 21 in CT there are there really 21% of voters who will split the line on their ballots JUST to vote for her/against Murphy? No way. But by all means, keep buying ads on all of FOX61/Courant platforms!

  2. Huh says:

“Progress Connecticut,” are you run by idiots? If this video contains material copyrighted by the WWE, then the WWE has every right to take steps to have the video taken down, including by filing lawsuits for willful copyright infringement and to seek their attorneys fees for doing so.

Who the hell do you think you are?

  3. Duh says:

The footage describing all of the drug abuse and deaths of wrestlers @ WWE seems to be from news clips anyone can use. So, if WWE uses its lawyers to try and force this footage down, they would be spending corporate money in coordination with the McMahon campaign, a serious federal crime. Now that would be idiotic!

  4. Bill says:

It really is amazing the number of folks who worked for McMahon @ WWE who dropped dead before they turned 50. You can see a pretty good list here:
    http://www.deadwrestlers.net/under50.html

    • marcus says:

Bill, what that site doesnt tell you is that 90% of the individuals listed hadn’t worked for WWF for years when they passed. Some, like Andre the Giant, had legitimate health problems before they joined this business. Most, unfortunately, chose to live a certain lifestyle after they left the business and they paid the ultimate price. These facts are ALSO readily available on the web. While we’re citing websites, you should know that there are hundreds of wrestling organizations in the US alone. Is WWF responsible for what happens in those places?

  5. LauraC629 says:

Yawn…this is getting old already. The Democrats and Unions must be getting nervous that the death grip they have had on CT is going to end in a few short weeks.

Aren’t people personally responsible for the lifestyle they live? People choose whether or not to take drugs and the wrestlers freely chose to get into the business knowing exactly what it was–last time I checked no forced these guys to wrestle or take drugs.

I don’t see these same liberals running around and blaming Hollywood studios and record labels for actors and singers dying at a young age or for the rampant drug use. It is absolutely ridiculous.

The more I see of these web ads being posted the more and more I am convinced to vote for McMahon.

    • Kim says:

right on the money Laura. But remember that according to Dems you DON’T have the responsibility for your own lifestyle – they ALWAYS know what is best for you and need to memorialize it via the legal system

  6. marcus says:

Regardless of who owns what footage, it’s ridiculous to presume that Linda McMahon is responsible for this man murdering his family. HE alone is responsible for his actions, including any drugs he might have taken to gain an edge in his career. If we weren’t in the gutter already, we certainly are now. The Dems are accusing the opposing candidate of causing a murder? This is outrageous.

  7. Bob says:

This is pathetic. These guys (Progress Connecticut) have obviously hit the bottom of the barrel. This is like HS amateur hour…..Facts:
    1. Wrestlers are independet contractors (like NFL football and MLB Baseball players) who make their own decision on what they put into their body.
    2. Accusing WWE or Linda McMahon for the actions of whan an indepdendent entertainer does is like accusing Robert Kraft and the Patriots about whatever their players put in their bodies. It is way to long a stretch.
    3. No evidence has ever come out that WWE had anything to do with these folks behavior, so making up stories and half-truths is completely unfounded.
    4. WWE has one of the most, if not the most, advanced health and wellness programs for their “indepdent contractors” entertainers who perform in their shows. They go way above and beyond what the NFL, MLB, NBA and other entertaiment studios (Paramount, Fox, etc) do for their talent.

  8. Kiernan Terry says:

Shame on these guys! How many times are we going to have to watch folks taking one clip out of context??? The reality is that this is entertainment, pure and simple and if you can’t understand that then you shouldn’t be making these charges. I wonder if the details will ever be examined by the Courant and Rick Green? Will they also look at drug use on movie sets and TV shows? Steriod use in football and baseball. Where is the outrage their???

  9. Johnny V says:

Enough of all this garbage!!! There is too much mud getting thrown back and forth in this race. When are we going to start talking about the issues that matter to the citizens of CT? I don’t care about who didn’t pay their mortgage or who took steriods – what about bringing more jobs to Connecticut? What about getting our economy going again? Both sides need to stop the baloney and start talking to us about how they can help make our lives (the voters, the citizens) better…..Help us!!!!

    • Kim says:

Johnny I agree for the most part. But Murphy’s ‘forgetting’ to make mortgage and other payments so many times goes to his ability to handle OUR money effectively and wisely. It’s a valid issue, unlike a legally protected bankruptcy

  10. Bob says:

At least 28 people who work for McMahon died before the age of 50 in the past decade while those athletes generated millions of dollars in profit for her family. Even Vince admits drugs and steroids were a big part of the business.

Which brings us back to the relevance to the Senate race. If you think its OK to make millions in profit off the wreckage of the lives of others, than you really aren’t going to care about the needs of regular folks when you vote in the Senate.

    • Kim says:

nonsense and more nonsense. The substance of Democratic and liberal talking points is exactly that and not substantive at all. False charges and implications are simply diversions and should be seen as such

  11. johngaltwhereru says:

WOW. 44 people dead before 50 over the course of around 40 years.

Apparently, Progress CT is unaware that 4.5% of all men and 8% of all women die before the age of 50 every year.

So, if you take the total number of wrestlers WWE and WWF have employed over the last 40 years, statistically, you are less likely to die before the age of 50 than if you were a non wrestling member of the the general public.

But what kind of “Progressive” organization would let facts get in the way of a propaganda campaign.

Alaska King Crab fishermen die at the rate about 80% higher than the average worker. Are Crab Boat operators disqualified from running for Senate? What is it was a hard left liberal Crab Fisherman running against Linda McMahon?

What is most important here is that nobody has released the incriminating information that Vince and Linda went out and kidnapped all the exceptionally large and flamboyant men and women around the country and forced them into wrestling servitude against their will. The part where Vince and Linda caused the genetic conditions that caused their massive size, then worsened their condition by injecting them with steroids against their will is also missing. Now that is something that would be worth reporting.

But you just keep up with your Goebbels-like lies and propaganda.
