REM, Ben Harper, Avett Brothers Make Jim Himes’ Campaign Playlist
President Obama has one. So does Mitt Romney.
Now you can add Congressman Jim Himes to the list of candidates with an official campaign playlist.
Himes, a Democrat from the 4th District, released a list of songs this afternoon that he says him help stay energized when he needs an extra push.
The list includes a couple of bluegrassy-ballads from alt-country faves The Avett Brothers; a song from Ben Harper, the Obama campaign’s unofficial house band; two from the Providence-based folk-blues band, Deer Tick; and old-school hits by Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers and REM.
Himes says these are the songs that keep him motivated to knock on one more door. “As a former athlete and always a competitor, I know that teamwork is key to just about everything we do. But even with the best support, sometimes running one more block—or knocking one more door—just seems out of the question. So, I wanted to share the tunes I use to stay energized. When I need extra push, I pop in some earbuds and crank-up my play list,” he said in his email to supporters.
Here’s the full list:

Am I missing something? We are faced with 8.3% Unemployment, 13-Million Americans out of work and nearly $16-Trillion in debt and Rep. Jim Himes “Campaign Playlist” merits mention in The Hartford Courant’s Capitol Watch section?
If Steve Obsitnik, Rep. Jim Himes opponent, ever said anything worth reporting perhaps The Courant would run a story. It is challenging to publish news without having any content. Maybe if Mr. Obsitnik would share his plans for altering Medicare, detailing what he would repeal in Obamacare, or how he would reduce the deficit the section of The Courant that focuses on Connecticut’s political movers and shakers would write about it.
This is nothing more than a distraction from the real issues facing real people everyday. Congressman Himes has sat in Congress for 2 terms with his Democratic Party controlling the White House and a majority of the Legislative Branch (one term with full control of both the House and the Senate). As such Congressman Himes has failed the people of his district and should be held accountable. Given Congressman Himes’ failure as a representative, I am certain he welcomes such distractions.
The voters of Connecticut’s 4th district, however shouldn’t be fooled. Failing to hold him accountable and vote Congressman Himes out of office (in the words of the Talking Heads’ song on his playlist), would make us “the biggest fools of them all.”
What stupid “news”!
