Rep. Courtney Introduces Student Loan Relief Act

by Categorized: Washington Date:

Rep. Joe Courtney spoke on the House floor Tuesday in support of legislation he introduced to extend the current interest rate on Stafford student loans, currently set at 3.4 percent. If Congress does not act, that rate will double to 6.8 percent on July 1.

\”The Student Loan Relief Act,\” which would extend the lower rate for two years, has 95 co-sponsors in the House and has also been introduced in the Senate.

With student loan debts hitting record highs in recent years, Courtney argued, \”it is time to pass the extension of the lower rate.\”
