State Sen. Andrew Roraback is preparing to head to New York City on Wednesday for his biggest fundraiser of the year with one of the best-known Republicans in the nation.
Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger is hosting the event with his wife, Nancy.
\”If you look at their political history, both Mrs. Kissinger and Dr. Kissinger were literally Rockefeller Republicans,\’\’ Roraback told Capitol Watch on Tuesday. \”They worked with Nelson Rockefeller. I think the reason they\’re doing this event for me is because of my political stripe. The socially moderate, fiscally prudent Republican strikes a cord with them.\’\’
When asked if he considers himself a Rockefeller Republican, Roraback says he avoids labels other than being a \”socially moderate, fiscally prudent Republican.\’\’
Roraback is raising money in his battle for Congress against Democrat Elizabeth Esty in the sprawling, 41-town district in western Connecticut that touches the New York State and Massachusetts borders.
Nancy Maginnes served as a longtime aide to Rockefeller before her marriage to Dr. Kissinger in 1974. Henry Kissinger, who had not yet joined the Nixon administration, recommended her in 1964 to Rockefeller. Rockefeller later became vice president, and Kissinger delivered a eulogy for him at a memorial service in 1979.
