The Courant’s Matt Kauffman reports that wealthy candidates for the open Fifth Congressional District seat continue to tap their own funds as the August 14 primary approaches.

Democratic Fifth District candidate Dan RobertiDemocrat Dan Roberti filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission Monday disclosing that he loaned another $200,000 to his congressional effort. That report came three days after Roberti reported giving $50,000 to his campaign. That brings his investment in the race to more than $830,000.

Last Wednesday, Republican Lisa Wilson-Foley loaned her campaign $100,000, on top of $585,000 in loans she had previously provided.

Both candidates’ figures still pale in comparison to Republican Mark Greenberg, who has loaned his largely self-funded campaign nearly $1.4 million. The only other candidate with significant personal loans is Democrat Elizabeth Esty, who two weeks ago gave her campaign a $500,000 loan, on top of $25,000 previously advanced.
