Sen. Edith Prague is one of the most outspoken supporters of Democratic political candidates, but she says that she is concerned about the campaign of her former state Senate colleague, Chris Murphy.

Prague is strongly supporting Murphy in the bare-knuckle battle against Republican Linda McMahon for the U.S. Senate in an increasingly nasty race that is featuring a blitz of negative campaign commercials. McMahon is sparing no expense as she broadcasts commercials across the spectrum on expensive, high-profile programs, including Greta van Susteren’s show on the Fox News Channel, “Squawk Box” on CNBC, ABC’s “Nightline” and Notre Dame football in prime time.

“I’m worried about Chris Murphy,” Prague told Capitol Watch. “I don’t see Chris anywhere, and that worries me. He’s a much better candidate than she is. She even came to Willimantic, and she was walking the streets and going into stores and shaking hands. She went to the Peach Festival in Manchester, and Chris was nowhere to be seen. He has just got to get out because he has a lot to offer.”

Prague added, “They were all at the [Democratic] convention, but the convention was only a week. Go to the fairs. Go on the street and meet people. Hurry up. The election is coming.”

Known as an outspoken liberal, Prague had nothing positive to say about McMahon.

“Why doesn’t she set up a big scholarship and send all these kids to college instead of throwing it all away on television ads?” Prague asked.

She added, “It’s her money. She can spend it the way she wants.”

Regarding Murphy, Prague said, “I want him to win. I trust him. He’s smart. He comes with knowledge and experience – and she comes with a lot of money. We don’t need another Republican in the Senate. We need that balance in Washington.”

Taylor Lavender, a spokesman for Murphy, said that he has spent the past five days in Washington, D.C. for his fulltime job as a U.S. representative from the 5th Congressional District.

Murphy attended the Labor Day parade in Newtown on September 3, spent about 24 hours at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, and attended the Crocodile Club political luncheon at Lake Compounce on Friday, September 7. He attended the Hebron Fair and then held a kickoff for “Students for Murphy” on the Yale University campus on September 8.

“He’s always running around, nonstop,” Lavender said Friday. ”He’s always out and about. It’s difficult because he’s only one person, and he has a job. He has to fundraise. He can’t self-fund like Linda McMahon. She doesn’t have a fulltime job. It’s hard to compare what she’s doing compared to what Chris is able to do.’’

  1. beantownbilly says:

Strange – chris misses 80% of House committe meetings, but now, just weeks before the election he disappears to Washington to “do his job”, which he is not running for and thus will soon be “out-of”? A little late to get conscientious.

    • Bret says:

Beantownbilly – it’s good to see that you see TV commercials, turn on your computer and type what the commercial has said. I think I could teach a monkey to do that. If (and this is a big if) you were able to digest and question what the voice on TV told you, you would know that the “80%” figure is a fabrication that has been disproven by many bipartisan groups. Linda has included in her 80% figure thousands of committee side meetings that Congressinal reps almost NEVER attend and instead send staff to. But, I guess, asking someone like you to think before you type is asking a little too much. Good day…

      • skyrocket27 says:

Your personal attack on “Beantownbilly” is indicative of your desire to detract from the issue.

With 23 million unemployed Americans, historic Federal debt, millions of American tax dollars and jobs shipped overseas under the guise of stimulus and a reduction in household income of over 5% in the past three years; may I suggest that the adults have serious issues to address. Your tactic has no use in working through these problems created by Congressman Murphy.

    • robynware says:

Oh give it a rest. I’ll bet if you checked the attendance record of the rest of the House, you would find committee attendance in the same range. A member of the House can’t be in all places at all times. What really counts is if the House member does his/her homework and shows up for votes IN THE HOUSE. This committee meeting statistic is such a distortion of what goes on that I’m still amazed that people are still quoting it. I guess if you hear a lie enough times, it becomes your reality.

Chris is lost outside the 5th district. When he ventured to Middletown two weeks ago Rosa DeLauro had to hold his hand. http://middletown-ct.patch.com/articles/reps-delauro-murphy-advocate-for-affordable-health-act#photo-11179505

  3. BobC says:

I am glad Edith is worried…we don’t need another liberal democrat in the senate. Republicans need to take control of the senate to counter the next 4 years of President Obama. Checks and Balances is what we need…every act passed by congress needs to be debated, not put on the shelf by congressional leaders in the senate.

    • Paul says:

Your last sentence totally contradicts what preceded it. Do you really not know which Senate party’s claim to fame – or should I say infamy – has been blocking debates and votes?

      • johngaltwhereru says:

        Paul,

Out of curiosity, who do you believe currently controls the US Senate?

Also, how many House passed bills are currently awaiting a vote in the Senate?

  4. cosmo topper says:

Listen this old lady has to go and sit in her
rocking chair I can’t wait till she is retired hip

    hip horay

  5. Vern says:

Getting strong support from an out of touch liberal wacko like Prague is counterproductive for Murphy’s feckless campaign.

  6. jschmidt says:

Murphy appeared with Pelosi at the far left bloggers convention vowing to push the progressive agenda. SO it is not surprising batty Prague is supporting him. The progressive agenda has made great success in CT with it pushing the state deeper in debt and putting a huge tax burden on the taxpayer.

  7. Bret says:

Yea, how terrible that Murphy has been in DC trying to actually legislate rather than here trying to raise money and kiss babies.

  8. Eileen says:

I wish coach Calhoun would have run.

  9. Peter says:

Murphy, in my opinion is as dirty as dirty can be. His refusal to disclose exactly how many payments etc. he missed in his rent and mortgage, and the rate of his “special loan” shows a hint of a cover-up. Does it sound familiar to anyone? Does Countrywide come to mind?
Chris Murphy should man-up and produce the information to clean up this matter instead of taking the route another Connecticut Democrat took. If Murphy can’t “remember” his obligations, how can he remember the Nations obligations? I say let this man get some experience in the real world and work for a living instead of being an “entitled one” out of touch with the real America representing us in DC. I’m sure the streets of Cheshire can use a sweeping, parks need cleaning. The “Murph” might benefit seeing how real American work.

    • Matthew Oakes says:

Heheheh I hope Webster Bank does decide to sue Linda to shut people like you up. They have clearly said he got no special deal and provided all the documents. But you believe what Linda is making you believe. Did you know Linda rewards convicted rapists? Did you know the McMahon family compared their drug trial to the 9/11 attacks? Question her REAL moral compass before you call anyone dirty.

  10. earle decker says:

“We don’t need another republican in the senate. We need that balance..”

What? The Senate is in control by the democrats. We actually do need another pub in the senate.

  11. Paul says:

Maybe Murphy was home paying is rent/mortgage on time for once.

  12. Jack says:

Ms Prague is worried about balance in Washington? What is balance in her opinion? Is it what we have today? If so, please give us something else, as what we have now is total gridlock where nothing at all is getting done. I know it’s not possible, but I think every member of the House of Represenatives should be voted out, and all inccumbants in the Senate need their walking papers too.

  13. Catherine says:

So Linda doesn’t have a job, but Chris does, and that’s why he missed so many meetings. And, “we don’t need another Republican in Washington” so its not Chris you like its just the fact that he is a Democrat. I get it. And why doesn’t she just give her money for college scholarships. Boy you liberals really hate anyone with their own hard earned money. Oh, sure, and all the Democrats in Washington they have no money, right. Why do you think their in politics, get rich on our backs. Linda doesn’t need the job to make money she has her own so you can trust she will work for the taxpayer and not self-serving like other politicians.

    • Matthew Oakes says:

She also rewards convicted sex offenders and compares her families struggle to the 9/11 attacks. She is not doing it to serve she is doing it for the power and prestige. Oh and it is nice to know you are so easy to lie too. His actual voting record is over 97% but hey people like you are why FOX exists.

  14. Russell says:

I get deluged with slick mailings from Lady Smackdown constantly. She’s a mean spirited brawler whose latest obsession is elective office. 50 Mil, last campaign and at least that much this election. Another rich girl buying herself an avocation.

  15. Lee says:

The Democrats have not demonstrated that they can lead this nation toward prosperity and growth. They seem to be in lock step to promote extreme political policy.

  16. Brian White says:

I saw his campaign surrogates in Main St. in Glastonbury, and I had to refrain myself from yelling out “Pay you bills”. If this guy can’t take care of his own business, how can he take care of CT. I am a homeowner, and landord. Chris would not qualify to live in my rental condo, how does he qualify to represent me in the Senate.

  17. skyrocket27 says:

Senator Prague is misjudging Congressman Murphy, he hasn’t disappeared. He’s attempting to make his record diappear.

Congressman Murphy’s record has led to 23 million Americans being unemployed and countless Americans being underemployed. This, in turn, means that millions of families and children have been forced into making ends meet with significantly reduced resources. While its a lesson the government would be well-served to learn; like Congressman Murphy’s record, is not one that is attrative.

Knowing Senator Prague’s “extreme liberal” stripe; perhaps she would be better off concerning herself with the jobs issues that have lead to this situation rather than Congressman Murphy’s political situation.

  18. william111 says:

    Dear Edith,
How is my old class mate doing?
I should sit you down and talk about Murphy, He is a loser,
dead beat and is not good for Conn. Help him get a job in Social services, He needs the work.
Linda, does not need hand outs. She is smart and will work for all of America and especially. Ct.
I like her Edith, I did not like the Crook Dodd, Charlie,
Rangle, Harry Reid, And so many in washington just plan steal all the time. Linda does not have to worry about free trips. Special loans from the banks.
She can spend her time making america great again.
Edith, See you soon and hopefully, a round of golf.
