Every time President Obama has come to the state to raise money there’s been a contingent of tea party activists on hand to greet him.
Monday will be no exception. Protesters will gather at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Marriott in Stamford, where Obama will headline a fundraiser for his reelection campaign. The president will also attend a fundraiser at the Westport home of Holloywood mogul Harvey Weinstein (at right).
Much of the state’s Democratic leadership is expected to attend the $500-a-plate fundraiser, according to Connecticut Tea Party Patriots, one of the groups organizing the protest.
“Its time to remind them that the conservative grassroots is alive and kickin’ and we will not stop our push to get them out of office come November,” the tea party said in a press release announcing the rally.
Jonathan Harris, executive director of the state Democratic Party, said the Obama campaign, not the state party, is hosting the event. Connecticut’s Congressional delegation, as well as all of its Constititional officers, have been invited, he said.
After the event at the Marriott, Obama will attend a fundraiser at Weinstein’s home in Westport. Tickets for that are $35,800 per person.
The fundraiser at the Marriott is expected to draw more than 400 people. The dinner at the Weinstein home is a far more intimate affair: The guest list for that gathering is expected to total 50 or fewer, Harris said.

I find it interesting that you see “equal taxation” as “taxing (the rich) to death”. President Obama has asked for one flat tax rate, rather than the multi – tiered rate currently in place. Also, what about the unfunded multi – trillion dollar Bush tax cuts? How can you pay for simultaneous wars (the majority of our debt you ascribe to Obama) when you cut your income? You want economic recovery? Pay down the debt that you owe, then you can cut taxes. It would be paid for by the money you won’t be spending on servicing the massive debt.
Those clowns who are dishing out $35,800.00 per head to get up close to yo-bamma are the same ones that are being targeted for the “let’s do an extra tax on the rich guys” gig that the socialist-lib-whackos in Washington have on their agenda.

Does the Tea Party show up and protest Mitt Romney because he used tax loopholes to pay zero income taxes for ten years and keeps money overseas? Romney isn’t exactly contributing to our countries national defense and security by refusing to pay his fair share.

the top 1% pays (as of 2009) nearly 37% of all income taxes collected each year
the top 5% (which includes the 1%) pays nearly 60% of all income taxes collected
the top 10% (which includes the 1% & 5%) pays nearly 71% of all taxes income collected
so it looks to me as the top 1% pays nearly 50% of all income taxes collected amongst the top 10%.
if you’re not in the top 10% of income earners you get off easy….especially if you’re in the bottom 50%!
You are being disingenuous using “income taxed”…. savvy rich pigs are able to HIDE income by calling it something else, so spare us the bull short about how they already pay their “fair share” on taxable income.
“Savvy rich pigs” like Warren Buffett (you know him…he has the secretary that pays more in “income tax than he does”) don’t pay a high income tax rate because their income is usually artificially low. They pain Capital Gains taxes on their investments which are lower than the income tax rate for high income earners.
But, don’t worry about the technicalities of such issues…you’ve already shown your wealth envy (which is fueled by Mr. Obama) so the facts won’t matter to you.

Since this is a fundraising event only, and not an “official visit”, I hope they are re-imbursing the state and cities/towns for all the overtime that will be spent. Oh yes and the loss of revenue from Sherwood Island Park being closed on one of the hottest days of the year. I would hope the Courant does a FOI request for the costs to Westport, Stamford and the State for this. That is a story in itself.

Everyone pays the same tax on investments held over time: Long-term capital gains taxed at 10%, short-term at 15%. Please stop with the “rich don’t pay taxes” crap.

@Bob — Since you’re big on facts I’d thought I’d share actual capital gains rates as currently in effect in America.
Unless you make very little money, capital gains are taxed at 15%, and short-term gains as ordinary income.
