Just as it did in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, the Libertarian Party of Connecticut is organizing a storm relief effort.

The party is asking its members as well as the general public to freeze bags and stockpile bottles of water, which will be handed out in case of a mass power outage.

The party distributed ice after Irene and the effort was “a resounding success,” said Dan Reale, the party’s Connecticut chairman.

Just as they did last year, volunteers will distribute the ice and water at Plainfield Town Hall. The group is also seeking volunteers for drop off points in central, southern and western Connecticut. The party is asking anyone interested in helping to go to its website:  http://www.lpct.org/2012/10/28/hurricane-relief-ice-for-connecticut/

Reale emphasizes that “this is not a government program or effort. It is a Good Samaritan program and effort based on volunteers.”
