Murphy Attack Ad Portrays McMahon as a Selfish CEO
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Chris Murphy debuted a new attack ad Wednesday morning that paints Republican Linda McMahon as a greedy businesswoman who made millions while laying off workers.
The ad also says McMahon is pushing an economic plan that would result in a $7 million tax cut for her.

The courants coverage of this and the Presidential campaign is a disgrace. The bias is absolutly a disgrace. We citizens need the facts not DNC talking points.
So the Democratic Party goes out and attacks a company/former CEO that has created and employed thousands during its long existence right here in Connecticut…the democrats have a weak record of creating jobs so the plan is to attack those that have actually had success through good times and bad…absolutely ridiculous but typical of this administration and Democratic Party. This is essentially the same line of attack the DSCC did in 2010 and was found to be misleading by FactCheck.org… http://www.factcheck.org/2010/10/dscc-not-fighting-fair/
The fact of the matter is, no one was denied anything–including disability benefits. The wrestling business has a long history of independent contractors. Each one of these performers knew exactly what they signed up for and freely chose the career profession just like a dentist, fireman or any small business owner does.
The Governor is out there touting tax credits to attract companies to the state and to spur hiring. Of course “CEO Linda McMahon” would have taken advantage of this to keep people employed just like the companies are doing today in Malloy’s First Five program and ESPN did a couple of years ago.
It is absolutely ridiculous that the media reports on these ads as facts without doing any work to tell a balanced story.
“Employed”? I’d say “Pimped” is more appropriate.
“Pimped”? The talent makes a minimum of $100K per year. How many “pimped” prostitutes are making $100K?
And how many wrestlers are being held in servitude against their will? They didn’t voluntarily work at WWE?
How much sympathy did you have for these poor, abused, oppressed wrestlers prior to Linda McMahon running for office?
How is it that everyone believes that WWE does not provide its employees healthcare? For one, anyone that is not a performer for the company is given full medical benefits just like any other company would. Also, the in-ring performers are also completely covered for any injury they receive while in the ring. I’m just really tired of all of these baseless claims against the WWE.
Yes, they’re covered while in the ring. But most responsible employers provide full medical benefits to their employees 24/7, not just while they’re at work.
George-
You missed the whole point about being independent contractors. This is similar to actors, singers, tennis players, etc. I would venture to say compared to most independent contractors, WWE has been quite generous.
Is this ad serious? I happen to know for a fact that WWE is fully responsible for any injury sustained by its performers in the ring. Why can’t these ads just focus on the issues and stay away from attacking a perfectly innocent company like WWE?
WWE has been pimping sex, violence, and drugs for decades. They’re hardly an “innocent company”
As for their health benefits – how many companies provide these benefits to their employees ony when they’re on the job? I’m covered ALL of the time, not just from 9-5.
Wake up George! WWE is TV-PG. Here’s who is “pimping sex, violence and drugs”: CBS, NBC, ABC, A&E, HBO, Showtime, Comcast, Mariott Hotels, Hilton hotels, etc. They profit from TV-MA, R and X rated content – not WWE! Wake up and smell the coffee! Tough Medicine for you liberal progressive dems to take but it will help. By the way, guess who funds Harry Reid’s DSCC that has bought ads attacking Linda? The executives from CBS, NBC, ABC, A&E, HBO, Showtime, Comcast, Mariott Hotels, Hilton hotels! Wow, so now who is benefiting from X-rated content????????????
Linda has made some tough choices, Yes, she laid off staff that were not working out. Leaders make choices and she can make the correct choice.
I make choices every day and some times workers do not work out. It is better for the worker and the company. The workers will find a new job that is suited for them.
Murphy would not fire any one or lay them off.
That is the problem with the DEMs they can not make choices for the betterment of the state or country.
We need leadership like linda not a puppet like Chris.
God Bless Linda
Come on Chris….this is what you’ve been reduced to??? Please focus on the ISSUES that matter to us (hint: jobs, economy) and not personally attacking Linda. FYI, if you want to attack her for being a CEO, please tell the truth about her business experience. 600+ Connecticut jobs created, real impact on local and state economy (ie: $$$ for people and small businesses & TAXES for local, state and federal government).
Isn’t Linda’s business like a movie studio? Paramount doesn’t pay for Tom Cruise’s health insurance. But im sure if you work for the company full-time they get health insurance. And by the way, if she didn’t pay for these things then Murphy should file complaint with Labor Department and get to the bottom of these charges otherwise that’s all they are – unfounded political charges!
The plain fact is that any CEO would be seen as a greedy/selfish CEO through the eyes of a ‘progressive’. It’s amazing how envious they sound in their attacks on people who actually accomplished something in their lives…
Ok, so now I get it….when you can’t tell the truth about WWE yourself, have Harry Reid spend his money to do it. How can Murphy attack quotes Linda uses from the Hartford Courant and then do the same thing?? Here’s a message for both candidates: ELECTION VICTORY = JOBS! simple. Stop the he said, she said, he did, she did, he didn’t, she didn’t. Stick to the facts that one candidate has created real jobs, the other has never created 1, not 1 job! Its really simple and Linda wins this point.
