Very Rare: Democrat Jonathan Pelto Agrees With Senate Republican John McKinney
It’s pretty unusual when Democrat Jonathan Pelto agrees with Senate Republican leader John McKinney, but they agree on Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s budget proposal that came out Wednesday.
Pelto writes:
“There are a lot of things I don’t agree with Senator John McKinney about, but in this case he is absolutely right. Governor Malloy’s proposed budget is a sham and a shame. It is an embarrassment that a Democrat proposed such an irresponsible budget, and the Democrats in the Legislature will need to start from scratch.
“As Senator McKinney put it, “”There’s so many gimmicks. I don’t know where to stop…This is the most dishonest budget I’ve seen.”
“He is sadly correct in his assessment,” Pelto wrote.
But in a press conference at the state Capitol, both budget director Ben Barnes and chief of staff Mark Ojakian strongly defended Malloy’s budget Wednesday against accusations that it is filled with gimmicks.
“This budget is brutally honest,” Barnes told reporters outside the Capitol press room. “We have nothing to hide.”

Overspending and borrowing for operations is no way to run a state. Its difficult to run from that truth and Democrats know it.
especially when they now have to own it
Brutally honest? there has been nothing honest about malloy and there has been nothing honest about the last two years and there will be nothing honest about the next two years. malloy on your way out turn off the lights, lock the door and leave the key under the welcome matt. Ben barns you keep on doing what you do best.mark ojakian you to keep on doing what you do best.WE THE CITIZENS OF THIS ONCE GREAT STATE KNOW THE TRUTH.
ben barns and mark ojakian we the citizens know what “brutally honest” is, and it is a shame that you gentlemen do not.
