In a relatively rare appearance in Connecticut for a member of the national ticket at the height of the campaign season, vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is coming to lower Fairfield County for a fundraiser on September 30.

Connecticut has been written off by some political observers as a “blue state” that has no chance of supporting Republicans in the November election. But state Republican chairman Jerry Labriola has rejected that idea, and he has been trying to convince the national ticket to come to Connecticut for some campaigning. He has constantly been saying that Republican Mitt Romney has a chance to win this year in the state, although that has been sharply rejected by Democrats.

In making progress in his effort, Labriola told FOX CT’s political reporter, Laurie Perez, on Tuesday that Ryan will be coming to Connecticut next month. He is also pushing for other visits that would include retail campaign stops around the state.

Labriola told Capitol Watch on Wednesday that the situation was still fluid – saying that the fundraiser could be held in Stamford or Greenwich.

Romney has come to Connecticut several times for private fundraisers over the past year, but he has not held the type of outdoor rallies that are seen in traditional swing states like Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania. In recent years, the major party candidates have hit the swing states during the fall election and have largely avoided Connecticut because the Democrats have won the state every year since 1988.

Ryan’s upcoming visit developed over the past 72 hours as Labriola spoke with national party officials at the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

I am glad to see Ryan come to Connecticut. It shows that he has guts to confront adversity. People who do that are deep rooted with their ideas and willing to have an adult conversation about them.

Id there was a year they should stop in the 5th to shore up the Rorabeck and McMahon rallies this would be it. THey have a real chance of picking up two seats. OK, it’s more like 1 1/2 seats if we include Roraback and but then we can round up ad call it 2 seats.

A half-hour at Coe Park and Obama would need to book the Civic Center again. And then when he didn’t fill it ……
