Vin Roberti To Friends: Help Dan, Your Support Won’t Be Forgotten
Days before Dan Roberti is set to square off in the Fifth District Democratic primary against rivals Elizabeth Esty and Chris Donovan, his father, Vincent, is also reaching out to help his son. In an email obtained recently by Capitol Watch, the state-lawmaker-turned-lobbyist asks friends to donate their time and money to help the campaign.
Vincent Roberti does not make any mention of New Directions for America, the super PAC supporting his son.
Some of the contributors to that group have ties to Vincent’s firm, although Dan Roberti’s campaign says those companies hired Vincent for consulting services, not lobbying services. The Courant’s Matt Kauffman has more details at his blog, The Scoop.

Subject: A little help….but very importantDear Friends:
Most of you know that my son, Dan Roberti, has been engaged in a race for Connecticut’s Fifth Congressional District for over 18 months now. This is the path he’s chosen, and as his father I feel compelled to support him. With only 10 days to go to the Democratic primary, Dan has pulled ahead in the polls and has a clear shot to win. First, I’d like to thank all of you who have helped Dan get to this point. Your support means a lot to me.
In order for Dan to win on primary day, we need your help. We need people to come to Connecticut to work the polls, knock on doors and assist with the campaign’s get out the vote efforts. I’m the first to admit that I’m a groveling dad, but we need your help. If you can join our efforts, please “reply all” to this email and let us know what you can do. We can follow up with specific information about what Dan needs on election day and this coming weekend.
If you can’t help on or around election day (August 14th) then please consider going online to contribute to the campaign at www.danroberti.com/contribute. As you can imagine, the nasty attack ads have started and will only continue to get worse. They’re even making a false claim that Dan is a “lobbyist”. You all know that Dan has never been a lobbyist and has instead devoted his life to community service from running a homeless shelter, assisting out of work veterans to helping rebuild New Orleans after Katrina. But, without financial support from all of you, Dan won’t be able to defend himself and get his message out between now and election day.
Again, thanks for your friendship and your continued support. Your help won’t be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Vin Roberti

“Your help won’t be forgotten.”
That almost sounds like an overt promise of political favors yet to be granted.
With ordinary pol’s, this innocent-sounding statement wouldn’t raise doubts or concerns. However, one can’t forget: This is Vin Roberti…
…and the apple never falls far from the tree.
