Waiting For “The Connecticut Effect” To Dissipate
An NRA lobbyist in Wisconsin was caught on tape over the weekend explaining how once folks move on from the dead first graders in Connecticut, things will get back to normal in the long debate over gun control.
Bob Welch, an NRA lobbyist in Wisconsin, said the group has “a strong agenda coming up for next year, but of course a lot of that’s going to be delayed as the “Connecticut effect” has to go through the process.” Read more at Think Progress. Listen to his remarks here:
These are fighting words to U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal:
If the NRA believes that Americans are going to forget what happened two months ago this week, it is sorely mistaken. What the NRA doesn’t seem to understand is that the so-called “Connecticut effect” is actually 20 children with their whole lives ahead of them taken from us in a matter of seconds – and six courageous educators who simply came to school to help children and, instead, lost their lives trying to protect them. The unimaginable pain their families and the Newtown community and our nation feel will not wear off anytime soon.

Are they thinking this will dissipate as quickly as the outrage over Omar Thornton and the Manchester Beer Distributors in August 2010? That was forgotten by Election Day. Kids make better props than old Jewish men. Lanza makes a more politically correct perp than a black male. Politicans kissing babies? As old as time. This will endure.
I’d like to think this idiot was talking about raw emotions leading to irrational legislation.
I would like to thank the Courant reporters for the thorough and honest coverage of this most important 2nd Amendment ‘crisis’.
I’ve seen at least 6 short columns on all of the guests being brought to the State of the Union speech. I’ve seen one short column on a pro-gun activist being brought to the speech. I’ve seen many quotes from the liberal side but none from the other side – any other side at all.
This – and the censorship – is why my subscription will be allowed to expire next month.
Its funny how Rick or the other lefties in the Courant never catch or report any of their buddies saying stupid stuff. Its always the right wingers. Never a peep from the village idiot Biden or diahrrea mouth Bill Maher.
Thanks for staying objective Rick.
